Established in Fall 2019, the Health Survey Research (HSR) Lab is housed in the Public Health Programs, Department of Kinesiology, College of Nursing and Health Innovation at the University of Texas at Arlington.
The goal of this lab is to conduct epidemiologic research studies focused on evaluating predisposing (e.g. race and ethnicity, specifically Arab/Middle Eastern and North African Americans) and enabling (e.g. patient-provider communication, patient experience) factors that influence individuals’ health across the life course using big data methodologies. This includes the secondary analysis of large national health surveys that use complex samples, including the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS), among others.
In addition to leading studies using large national health surveys, a goal of this my work with the HSR lab is to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to research studies designed to 1) integrate national health surveys with community and clinical data sources and 2) provide research mentorship to future public health and medical professionals.
